Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, The Master Text (Second Edition) By Gene Simco 800 Pages
Gene Simco's Master Text Begins with a detailed explanation of Jiu-jitsu's History, Philosophy and Science. Techniques are shown in a sequenced and well organized order, grouped into application (Sport, No Gi Grappling and MMA). Unlike many books written by an author showing what works for them or one specific style of Jiu-jitsu, Gene shares his experience of training with many different Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Champions and Instructors with the reader; this approach makes for a complete look at the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

The first version of The BJJ Master Text was published in 2001 and was around 300 pages. Gene's books became so popular and people noticed, especially his competition. Bigger companies saw the rise in popularity of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and began investing in bigger names like the Gracies and Machados. A larger company approached Gene about this project, which was to be released before the Gracie?s first title. As a result, this project was rushed, causing the book to have flaws that would motivate Gene to create his second edition of this book. He was never happy with the way the first version book turned out or the way it was marketed; pressures to compete with the bigger names in the market caused everything from typos to biographical inaccuracies. Regardless of its flaws, this book received incredibly high reviews and actually went Head to Head with the first of the Gracie Family releases, winning an award over their book at about.com.
Once Gene?s obligations were finished with his first publishing company, he began work on this book to repair what he felt was some damage created by the first rushed version of this book and poor marketing surrounding it. Much more than a first version, just the pages added to this book alone were larger than any other book written on the subject. Nearly 500 pages were added to the first version of the Master Text along with hundreds of new techniques. After a brief availability in stores, it was made exclusive to a select group of retailers in order to better control customer service quality and poor marketing. A very sizable discount was also given to all owners of the first edition for the first few months of this titles release.
The Second Edition of The Master Text is 500 pages larger than the first and stands as the largest book of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu ever written. This book is not only Gene Simco?s flagship product, but a crowning achievement and symbol of his dedication to his customers and the martial arts community.
